For us at Berkel AHK, CSR is not just a term, but an obligation. Since our foundation in 1847, we have seen ourselves as a company with a deep responsibility towards society, our employees and the environment. Our commitment encompasses social, ecological and economic aspects that are closely interlinked. 

Our understanding of CSR 

CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) describes the social responsibility of a company towards society. It encompasses areas such as environmental and climate protection, social commitment and an employee-oriented corporate culture. For us, this means that ecology and economy are not opposites, but equal partners pursuing a common goal: 

Sustainability through efficiency. 

At Berkel, we firmly believe that investing in ecological measures not only protects the environment, but also promotes economic development. This has been particularly evident in recent decades, when we have not only raised our ecological standards but also improved our economic results through innovations in the field of energy saving. 

Sustainability in production 

Our main product, ethanol, has always been produced organically through fermentation - a natural and sustainable process. But our commitment does not stop at production. We focus on environmentally friendly and resource-saving processes in all areas, for example: 

• Energy savings: We have significantly reduced energy consumption by optimizing our production facilities and using modern technology. 

• Recycling: Waste from production is not disposed of, but recycled sensibly - e.g. through thermal recycling in our own steam boiler. 

• Renewable energy: Our company-owned photovoltaic system supplies environmentally friendly electricity and reduces our carbon footprint. 

Social responsibility 

As a medium-sized family business, it is particularly important to us to have a positive impact on our immediate environment. Our responsibility includes: 

• An employee-oriented corporate culture: we rely on trust and motivation through delegation and offer our 50+ employees a safe and appreciative working environment. 

• Commitment to the region: We support local projects and are committed to promoting the common good at our locations in Berlin, Lippstadt and Ludwigshafen.
